At least 18 eagles at Colvill Park, a little action at Bay Point Park

We saw a sub-adult Bald Eagle eating a large fish on the edge of the river across from Bay Point Park this morning. The local pair of eagles were not happy about it because that was their territory. They harassed the intruder until it eventually left the remains of the fish.

We counted 18 eagles in the trees around the bay at Colvill Park. Five pelicans remain in the bay at Colvill Park. We retrieved the body of a dead pelican and delivered to the University of Minnesota for testing. It came back negative for avian influenza, so that was a good sign for the remaining pelicans. They found a mass on the pelican’s mandible, which prevented it from eating. They will investigate further to identify the cause.
