Baby birds are everywhere. In our yard, we have nesting Gray Catbirds. We discovered the hard way that baby Catbirds leave the nest before they can fly. We kept putting them back in the nest because we thought they fell out! They kept jumping back out. Afterwards, I read they leave the nest 8-10 days after hatching and are capable of running through the underbrush, where parents find them and feed them. Another amazing fact!
We’ve seen a number of juvenile Bald Eagles around the river, often whining to their parents for food. We saw one adult eagle drag a large fish out of the river and left it for his baby to eat.
This week, we saw a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk perched up close at Memorial Park. He may have been intimidated by gusty winds.
The juvenile Peregrine Falcons have been seen flying around town, and they may be capable of feeding themselves now.
Also, we saw juvenile Cedar Waxwings flocking with their parents at Colvill Park.
