With subzero temperatures, ice floes formed on the river channel. Many waterfowl took refuge in the bay at Colvill Park, and we estimated 40 eagles in the park. By afternoon, many eagles had dispersed after the ice cleared from the channel. Five pelicans remain in the bay, which remains open with warm water from the Xcel power plant. We expect the coming cold weather to bring more eagles to the park. Also, early this morning before dawn, we saw northern lights!
