The river continues to be mostly covered in ice, except for a few patches of open water. On Wednesday we encountered a dozen bald eagles actively fishing in a small patch of open water, about 20-30 yards across, on the river at Bay Point Park. There was a large number of waterfowl in the open water and all birds were going after small fish. Today, there were about 6 eagles near the open water at Bay Point Park. The number of eagles at Colvill Park has declined from the 36 we counted early in the week, with about 8 counted today. We saw a large patch of open water on the river at Prescott, Wisconsin today, with a number of eagles and waterfowl present.
