With the cold temperatures, the river channel is mostly frozen, with just a few open patches of water. Even the channel at Reads Landing is completely frozen. About 3 dozen eagles remain at Colvill Park, with perhaps a few hundred waterfowl, including Common Goldeneyes, Common Mergansers, Mallards, and one Redhead. They are all competing to catch fish in the bay as the ice closes in. The bay at Colvill Park remains open with warm water from the power plant. One patch of open water remains at Bay Point Park also, providing the local eagles an opportunity to catch fish.
