Local eagles active, more on Lake Pepin, and colder weather expected

The local eagle couples are active, working on their nests, and squabbling over territory with mating season upon us. We found a new nest in a tall pine tree near the golf course on Sixth Street and maybe two new nests at Colvill Park. Lake Pepin is mostly free of ice at this point and a number of eagles were seen feeding from an overlook on US 61 north of Reads Landing. With expected cold weather, more ice will form and we could see more eagles around remaining open water.
