Peregrine Falcon returned, Colvill Park bay frozen

This morning a Peregrine Falcon was seen harassing immature Bald Eagles over the river channel near Levee Park in downtown Red Wing. This is the first time since last fall we’ve seen a Peregrine Falcon in Red Wing. A nest box for Peregrine Falcons sits on the top of the Red Wing Grain building since 1990.

The bay at Colvill Park is frozen, possibly because the Xcel energy plant is not actively discharging warm water. We saw about 6 eagles at Colvill Park. A number of eagles were seen soaring over the river in the late afternoon winds as the snow slowed down for the day.
